Jai has been training in the martial arts since 1989 when he began taking Shorin-Ryu Karate at five years old under Hanshi Doug Perry. Later, he transitioned to Taekwondo under Master T. J. Kwon.
In college, Jai began practicing kickboxing. After moving home, Jai joined the police force and was introduced to MMA and Brazilian Jiu-jitsu by a police academy mate.
In 2007, Jai began training at The Center for Martial Arts in the mixed martial arts program under the guidance of Peter Freer and Vincent Alberico. Under Freer, Jai learned components of western boxing, Thai boxing, Jeet Kune Do, Judo, and Catch Wrestling, which were included in Freer's MMA style.
While training in MMA, Jai met Professor Butch Marks and cross trained in no gi Brazilian Jiu Jitsu with Professor Marks and Professor Haun.
Jai donned the gi in 2016 under Professor Rusty Haun and began teaching MMA at a local martial arts school. Jai received his blue belt from Professor Rusty Haun and Professor Joe Hurst in 2017.
In 2017, Jai began cross-training in Brazilian Jiu-jitsu with Professors Bryan and Michael Baldwin at Cross Training Academy (CTA). He also trained at American Top Team under Professor Marks at that time as well. Jai trained boxing/kickboxing under Coach Chris Sawtelle at ATT. He landed back at CTA, where he was promoted to his current rank of two stripe purple belt under Professor Bryan Baldwin.
